A video recently published by the Australian Glass and Window Association (AGWA) has sent a strong warning to the Australian building industry.
Independent testing commissioned by Ventora and conducted through an accredited laboratory found that 7 out of 8 cheap aluminium window samples imported from China failed to meet the basic N2 performance requirements for sale in Australia. The results were described as 'frightening' – with issues ranging from major water leaks to frames collapsing in simulated storm conditions. Some windows were found to be at risk of detaching from walls under high wind pressure, posing a serious safety hazard.
If you are currently comparing suppliers, this is a critical reminder: price should never be the only factor in your decision-making process.
While cheaper options may seem attractive upfront, they often come with hidden costs – poor performance, compliance failures, and even safety risks. The AGWA test results clearly show that low prices can mean low quality.
When choosing an aluminium window and door supplier for the Australian market, consider these key factors:
Australian Standard Compliance – Does the supplier's product meet AS 2047 and carry proper certification? All residential windows sold in Australia must comply with AS 2047 and display a permanent compliance label. AGWA-accredited members must test their products at accredited facilities and provide a Certificate of Compliance.
Proven Experience in the Australian Market – Does the supplier understand Australia's unique climate conditions, building codes, and installation requirements? The AGWA test highlighted that many failed products were simply 'not designed for Australia's local environment'.
Comprehensive After-Sales Support – Does the supplier offer local warranty, technical support, and service? AGWA members are required to provide a minimum 7-year warranty.
Local Presence & Support – Does the supplier have a local showroom, local representation, or local installation support? Having a local team means you get faster response times, better communication, and accountability.
At AMJ, we are committed to supplying high-quality aluminium windows and doors that meet Australian standards. With years of experience in the Australian market, local support, and a focus on quality over shortcuts, we help you avoid the risks highlighted in the AGWA report.
